Supporting the eight Festival Sinema Australia Indonesia (FSAI), Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ) held an Acting Masterclass entitled Acting for Film together with Australian Film Actor, Carlos Sanson Junior on Monday, February 27th, 2023 at the Content Garage, SEZ Singhasari.
Carlos Sanson Junior directly shares his experiences as an actor in the various films he has been involved in. As a Diploma of Arts (Acting) graduate from Screenwise in 2018, Carlos shares effective acting methods and Acting Approaches.
This masterclass felt more intimate after Carlos showed his casting videos and told the journey of the film making process, from the reading until a scene becomes a feature film. Masterclass participants were also invited to participate directly in front of Carlos, using dialogue from the latest film project made by Content Garage SEZ Singhasari, entitled Es Teh Hangat.
The Es The Hangat Film project, which will start next March, has just held its casting process in mid-February. The film which will be directed by Mahesa Desaga, alumni of FSAI, is a short film that promotes the tourism potential of Malang Regency. More uniquely, the Regent, H. Sanusi and also the Consul General, Fiona Hoggart, were lined up to appear in several scenes of the Es Teh Hangat film.
Vicky Arief, from Content Garage was very honored by the presence of Film Actor Carlos Sanson Junior, “This Masterclass was very memorable for the participants who were actors from Malang Raya. Most of these actors did not receive acting education at the Performing Arts School, but were self-taught in the communities where they belonged. Acting Masterclasses like this can really boost their abilities and insights as Indonesian actors.”
David Santoso as CEO of SEZ Singhasari added, “The FSAI Acting Masterclass is one of the efforts to strengthen relations between Australia and Indonesia through the film industry. We see this activity as a vehicle to introduce Indonesian culture and tourism to the Australian people.”
The FSAI Acting Masterclass event is part of the Animation and Film Factory (AFF) big plan at SEZ Singhasari to enter the international film scene. Currently, AFF has started discussing and collaborating with countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, and especially Australia. In December 2022, several Australian documentary film directors have already given masterclasses in film.
Australia, especially in Western Australia is the epicenter of the world of film and performing arts. WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts), located on the Edith Cowan University (ECU) campus, is the most well-known performing arts educational institution in Australia. Actors like Hugh Jackman are graduates of WAAPA.
Currently the CEO of SEZ Singhasari, David Santoso is in Western Australia to make a return visit and also to meet face-to-face with several delegates from the Western Australian film industry who will be visiting the SEZ Singhasari in March 2023. In addition, David Santoso will sign an MoU between SEZ Singhasari with Western Australia Creative Tech Innovation Hub, Edith Cowan University.
The Australian Consulate-General in Surabaya strongly supports the AFF SEZ Singhasari, one of which is by jointly holding the FSAI Acting Masterclass. This year is a very special moment because the Australian Embassy Jakarta together with the Australian Consulate-General Surabaya are again holding the FSAI in person, after the last 2 years the FSAI was held virtually. The annual FSAI is held with the aim of sharing Australian stories with Indonesian people, as well as highlighting the talents that Australia and Indonesia have in the film industry.
SEZ Singhasari really supports the development of creative industries in Indonesia. In October 2022, SEZ Singhasari has inaugurated Animation and Film Factory (AFF), the largest animation and film center in Indonesia, AFF is one of the business clusters currently being developed at SEZ Singhasari, namely content. AFF currently has around 20 studios with 500 creators. By adhering to the plasma-core pattern, SEZ Singhasari believes that content democratization can be realized properly. Apart from being the largest in Indonesia, the community-based development pattern will give birth to creators who can collaborate in producing high-quality content.
SEZ Singhasari together with the Regional Government of Malang initiated the making of the film Es The Hangat which tells the journey of a family exploring the corners of Malang Regency. In their journey, they experience funny and unique incidents, which will make them recognize each other more deeply and gain experience as a family through the beauty and culture that is spread in every corner of Malang Regency.
